“THE EXCEPTIONS Of SALVATION”
John 3:3-7
* English Prime Minister Winston Churchill was known to have a great memory. Once at a party he encountered a woman who was a political rival…she walked up to him and started talking to him like an old friend, to which eh replied “Pardon me ma’am, I never forget a face, but in your case I'll make an exception!”
“There is an exception to every rule - and everybody thinks they’re it!”
The word exception means “something excluded from.”
As a car cannot run without a motor……. as a person cannot live without air , or a fish cannot live without water. There are some things that just have to be. There can be no exceptions.
3 x the word “except” is seen in our text. It is synonymous w/the word “unless.”
✯All that had to be done to obtain salvation has been accomplished on the cross of Calvary!
All that we must do, is believe! Acts 16:30 “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
This belief involves certain ingredients. …..knowledge is not good enough!
James 2:19 “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.”
ÆIf mere mental assent were sufficient, Satan would be saved!
No, it is clear in scripture that saving faith has certain exceptions…….. not exceptions TO but OF
I. THE EXCEPTION OF REGENERATION
* After hearing his dad preach on “salvation”, "justification," "sanctification," and all the other "-ations," a preachers son was ready when his Sunday school teacher asked if anybody knew what "procrastination" meant.
The boy said, "I'm not sure what it means, but I know our church believes in it!"

Titus 3:5 “… according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost”
Here we have the original episode of Nick at Night when & where Jesus used an EARTHLY EXAMPLE
to ILLUSTRATE & ILLUMINATE eternal truth!
Jesus said what we need is NOT a boost from beneath, but a birth from above!
It takes DOUBLE delivery to enter in God’s kingdom!
He was referring to NATURAL birth— (* Woman has baby her WATER breaks….) NOT baptism!!!!
We are saved by the BLOOD not by the FLOOD! You could be dipped in every Tadpole hole in America & still go to hell dripping wet!
* I was delivered at 10:47 PM July 5th 1973 & my mama told me all about it---but at about 10 till Midnight June 26th 1992 I was born again!! I was born the 1st time a child of a Keeter, the 2nd time child of the King!!!
Your 1ST birth brought you INTO this world-the 2ND will bring you OUT! You’ll be AIR born!
*** Better to have never been born ……than to not be born again!!***
II. THE EXCEPTION OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
Mat 5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Pharisees rules had rules! 1 Pharisee had more religion than 50 Baptists! (…..that’s 100 Methoidists!)
But even Nicodemaus…a RULER of the Pharisees---wasn’t righteous enough!
✯Salvation is not a reward for the righteousness; it is a gift for the guilty!
ÆSalvation is a matter of BIRTH not WORTH! New LIFE not a new LEAF
Titus 3:5 “Not by works of righteousness which we have done,…..”
Isa 64:6 “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags”—not our sins or iniquities—!
*Rom 10:3-4, 10
Last night George Zimmerman was declared "not guilty", but I have been declared “righteous", "...justified freely by his grace..."
2Co 5:21 For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.”
Rom 4:3, 22 “For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness……..And therefore it was imputed to (Abraham) for righteousness.
Phil 3:9 Paul said “(I am) found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith”
✯Brother N.S. had a blood transfusion --that’s what we had!
1 Pet 1:18-19 “ ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, ….; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot”
III. THE EXCEPTION OF REVEALING
* John 3:8 Birth & Breeze * John 6:44
~ If you haven’t been convicted, you haven’t been converted ! ~
The wind blows where it will- It can be examined but cannot be explained or controlled.
✯We preach a WHOsover but not a WHENsoever will! * 6:65
John 12:32 “If I be lifted up, I will draw all men unto me”
He draws everyone, regardless of race or riches, age or ability…..but….
If you leave under conviction and don’t get saved, you may live to be 99 yrs old and never have another opportunity to be born again!
Prov 29:1 “He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.”
IV. THE EXCEPTION OF REPENTANCE
Luke 13:3 “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.”
Act 17:30 “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent”
“repent” means “a change of mind that result in a change of direction”
✯It’s taking God’s SIDE against SIN & SELF
2 Co 7:10 “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.”
Remorse says,"I broke Gods rules" Repentance says,"I broke Gods heart."
Regret wants to change the past, but repentance wants to change the future!
V. THE EXCEPTION OF RECEIVING * Matt 18:1-3
* Man changing church doors “Our doors were to heavy for children to open and we don’t want that”
I’m glad “Jesus loves the little children , all the children of the world…all are precious in His sight”
✯Jesus had a hands-on ministry! (CARTER)
Jesus "Took Them up in His Arms." Jesus "Laid His Hands on Them."
Vs. 6 Æ the hottest halls of hell are reserved for those who harm children, body and/or soul!
The meaning of the verb, “to bless” means, “to bow the knee.” He got down to their level!!!
God almighty humbled Himself…….and if HE can—WE can! (ÆThis week VBS…..-—puppets etc.)

“Converted” means “changed”
The “be” in front means you don’t do it yourself! John 1 “but as many as received Him”
When a child does wrong—under 6—He asks for mercy not merit. He doesn’t argue like an adult…
