The Gifted by Terri Blackstock

As with all of Blackstock's novels, The Gifted reads easy and well. BUT that is where the similarity ends.  This is a much different venue for Blackstock.

The Gifted is a very short novel that gives us a brief glimpse into the lives of 3 people -- ordinary Christians who are trying to grow in their walk.  These 3 friends begin a Bible study afterwork.  In the midst of the first meeting, an earthquake hits and they are trapped with their injuries and their thoughts -- memories of what they have not done, what they should have done, family being left behind ......  Miraculously they are rescued, but the injuries remain -- horrendous injuries that are not life threatening, but certainly like changing.

They are passed over in the hospital for the more serious cases and left to spend the night crying out to God and wondering what the future holds for them.  And then morning comes.... and they are whole, healed miraculously! But that is not all... they are more than whole, they have each been given a supernatural gift.  One sees into the hearts of people, one has feet that lead him to people in need and the other cannot stop talking about the Lord.

Working together, they become the perfect evangelical team -- bringing the hope of the Good News to those in need.  Lives are changed and they are on fire for the Lord.

But then as quickly as their gifts came, they leave.  The healing is still in tact, but the supernatural gifts are gone.  Now what?

This is a story for all of us.  Blackstock shows how we all have gifts -- gifts we take for granted like the ability to walk, talk, see..... and she shows how all our gifts are to work together with others' gifts to glorify God and further His kingdom.

The Gifted is more than a fun book to read or a neat story, it is a book that will challenge you and cause you to think about the gifts you are blessed with every day of your life of earth.  Are you using them for the Father? For His kingdom?  Do you take them for granted?

In my opinion, The Gifted is a must read for every Christian!
