12/23/2004Handel's "Messiah," the "Hallelujah Chorus" - they're part of Christmas.
Handel was broke and depressed when someone asked him to write an oratorio
for a benefit concert for people in debtor's prison. The night it was first performed, 128 prisoners went free - and Handel's life turned around. The Messiah of Christmas - Jesus Christ - is still setting prisoners free. He said, "The Lord has sent me to proclaim release from darkness for the prisoners" (Isaiah 61:1). He was talking about the prison the Bible calls sin - we're locked out from the God who put us here and locked into a life of meaningless days, incurable guilt, and never enough love. Jesus came here to do the dying for the sinning you've done, so you could experience the ultimate freedom of being totally forgiven, close to God, and ready for eternity.
He's extending His rescuing hand to you today. If you want to belong to Him, call us at 1-888-NEED-HIM.
This can be your Hallelujah Christmas - free at last.
