The Hangman's Curse

Posted by: Blc914 <Blc914@...>

This is the first book in Peretti's new series -- The Veritas Project. Many
catalogs place these in the youth/young adult section, but they are
appropriate for "older" adults too! The main characters are a family of 4,
the Springfields, who work undercover to handle crisis situation and discover
the truth behind them. In the Hangman's Curse students are going mad,
babbling incoherently and occasionally saying Abel Frye -- the name of a
school legend. Supposedly Frye hanged himself at the school 30 years earlier
and his ghost haunts the place. Is he exacting revenge on these students or
is a darker power at work or something else? This book moves fast and is
very intriguing. The Springfield's approach every angle from a Christian
point-of-view examining it in light of the Truth. It is a great read and
appropriate for some teenagers - actually I would think 10 and up could read
it, but you might want to read it first. My son would have no trouble reading
this book, but there are a couple of "scenes" towards the end that would
give him the willies and maybe even nightmares! I would tell you why, but it
would spoil the book! Let's just say that he has something specific he is
afraid of and it is addressed in this book. SO I will save it for when he is
a bit older! My 13 yo plans to read it as soon as she finished Dee
Henderson's the Negotiator.
