Dear Hope Chest friends,I've been off-line nearly a week due to a modem crash. I tried to send
a message to this list via a friend's computer, but it doesn't seem to
have come through. Anyway, the next issue of the Hope Chest, with the
theme of "A Creative Family," will come out within a day or so. It has
taken a good bit of patience to wait and see this process through, but I
am trusting in God's perfect timing.I am very grateful to Thad's uncle, Joe Scerra, who happened to be in
town to see my mother-in-law. He opened up our computer yesterday,
replaced the CMOS battery, blew all the dust out with a couple of cans of
compressed air, and showed me how to swap out the modem. Thad sweetly
went out to CompUsa and bought a new modem and a new CD-ROM drive (we've
been without that for a few months!) for a whopping total of $20 after
rebates. Can you believe it? This is a sign of God's gracious
providence to us. We thought about replacing the whole computer, but I
hate to spend that much money when I can nurse this one along for a while
more. It took me a while to get everything hooked up right, but here we
are at last!My mother-in-law, Ann, had a CAT scan on Friday to check on the progress
of her cancer treatment. We are still awaiting the final word on this,
but the preliminary report looks good. She still has three monthly mega
chemo treatments to endure, and she is still battling dehydration.
Please continue to pray for her! Thad's youngest sister Sarah is the
resident caregiver at the moment, and will be here until her wedding on
May 10. Our family will resume caregiving after that.At our house, we're struggling through a bout of the stomach flu.
Lydia, Naomi, Micah, Andrew and I have all gotten it. My case is very
mild, and hasn't slowed me down any, but I've done an awful lot of
cleaning up after the others! So say a prayer for us, too!Another prayer request is that a month ago, a large shipment of my books
was lost en route to Illionois. The box came open and the books fell
out. The bad news is that they were not insured. The good news is that
I had enough books in stock to replace them in time for the APACHE
convention, which is this weekend, though they missed a smaller
conference.Well, I'd love to ramble more after going a week without e-mail, but I've
got some sick children needing my attention!Blessings,
Virginia
