The Powers of StarLots

Contrary to popular belief, the role of StarLots is not limited to
rolling on your gaming table. The Adventure Master is free to devise
special powers for StarLots that are given to LightRaiders for special
purposes. Remember the Money Love Potion in MoonBridge Raid 3? The
potion is tested by dropping a StarLot into it. Likewise, a StarLot
could be used to find the way out of a maze or dense forest (glowing
brightly when held in the correct direction) or heal a specific ailment
or amount of damage if a Renewer is not present. A StarLot probably
would not detect evil since that would be duplicating Sense Evil,
something the LightRaider may do for himself.

Sometimes, a StarLot's power could be initiated by the recitation of a
WordRune. A RaidTeam might receive a scroll or two from a talking animal
or a Celestial Guardian along with an accompanying StarLot. There might
be multiple effects listed with the use of the WordRune - it does one
thing when spoken alone, it does another thing when used in conjunction
with the appropriate StarLot.

The Adventure Master may allow a Prayer Warrior to hold a StarLot before
a Dark Creature to remind the creature of the OverLord's triumph over the
dragons and their evil. This can reduce the Battle Ability of every Dark
Creature in the battle by 1 every other combat round until the
PrayerWarrior puts it away. The PrayerWarrior holding forth the StarLot
can do nothing else. Lost Battle Ability points return at the rate of 1
per round after the StarLot is put away.

Rarely do StarLots have more than one special power. Typically, a
StarLot's power can only be used once during an adventure, and a
LightRaider is usually given only one StarLot at a time. As with
WordRunes, the use of the StarLot must be necessary appropriate to the
situation.
Remember also that a StarLot does not have to have a special power. And,
the RaidTeam may have to discover if a StarLot even has a special power
(and what it is) through any method the AM devises.

The Adventure Master has to watch that the players do not rely to much on
the use of StarLots. Should the group have a problem in this area, the
AM does not even have to allow special powers of StarLots to be used,
even if the adventure text calls for it. If the LightRaiders are
flippant about their gifts from the OverLord, the AM can make sure that
their StarLots do not work, and can even make the situation tougher to
stress the
point that the LightRaiders should be grateful.
