The Spotless Lamb

Posted by: <@...>

Jesus understands every weakness of ours, because he was tempted in every way that we are. But he did not sin!  So whenever we are in need, we should come bravely before the throne of our merciful God. There we will be treated with undeserved kindness, and we will find help. Hebrews 4:15-16 CEV

Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God.  For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered Himself to God as a living sacrifice for our sins. Hebrews 9:14 NLT

You were rescued from the useless way of life that you learned from your ancestors. But you know that you were not rescued by such things as silver or gold that don't last forever. You were rescued by the precious blood of Christ, that spotless and innocent lamb. 1 Peter 1:18-19 CEV

Do you believe that Jesus committed sin during His life on earth?  Sadly, 28% of born again Christians do, according to a Barna Research survey.  However, this misguided belief does not in any way alter who Jesus really is - the spotless Lamb of God.  Why is it important to understand this foundational truth?  Consider this:

If Jesus had committed sin, He could not have paid the price for our sin because the requirement was an unblemished sacrifice (Numbers 19:2; Numbers 28:3, 9, 11; Numbers 29:17, 26).  Without His payment for sin, there would be no redemption, and every human being ever born would be destined for eternity in hell.

If Jesus had committed sin, He would not have paid the price for our sin.  At its core, sin is the expression of the selfishness of human nature.  Only the selfless Lamb of God would endure the torture of being scourged and the intense agony of the cross simply “for the joy that was set before Him” - the reconciliation of sinners to God.

If Jesus had committed sin, He could not stand in God’s presence, which means He could not be our High Priest and mediator before God (1 Timothy 2:5).

Because He was God’s spotless Lamb, the price has been paid.  Because He paid the price, eternal life is available to you and me.  Because He died, we can truly live.  Because He lives, we can face tomorrow.

Precious Jesus, THANK YOU!
