THE TRAVELING WIFE

The cold of winter seeps into my bones,
The chilling dampness steals within the bed,
Where none but I disturb the crumpled sheets,
By turning, churning, lonely, words unsaid,
No one to listen, hearing the thumping beats,
With lumbering, hollow echoes in my head.
But she can't hear her suffering husband's moans.
