The Weapon of Prayer

Posted by: AndNeu_1 <AndNeu_1@...>

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:4-5

For the record, I HATE roaches. All of them. But especially the kind that are big enough to wear your clothes and suddenly decide, just as you're about to smash their ever-loving brains against the wall, to fly over and land on your body. EEEWWW!!! I'm not certain who I blame most: God for creating them (I mean, what WAS He thinking?), or Noah for not eradicating the little monsters when there were only two of them. After all, they could have found their demise under the elephants' feet and no one would have been the wiser. ("Roaches? Why no, God, I haven't seen them anywhere.)

And so it was that one of these nasty creatures found its way into my home. Here in the South we do not have the frozen winters that diminish their population each year, so we rely on more proactive weapons - fly swatters and bug spray. I know these weapons well and am relentless in combat - one of us will die, and it will not be me. I will spare you the details of my tirade; suffice it to say that the roach didn't stand a chance, and every surface in my bathroom was perfumed with Outdoor Fresh Raid.

I wonder sometimes if I am as well versed and persistent with my spiritual weapons. One of those weapons, listed in Ephesians 6: 10-18, is prayer. Too often I have tended to accept the misconception that prayer is a last-ditch effort when there is little or no hope. In reality, it's quite the contrary. As with all our spiritual weapons, prayer is amazingly powerful. Prayer articulated through faith touches heaven and has the potential to change history.

Heavenly Father, I thank you for the gift of prayer. Thank You that Your ears are open to the cries of Your children and You concern Yourself with the affairs of men. Thank You for the precious privilege of knowing that the God of the universe wants to communicate with me. I love You and praise You, Father. In Jesus' name. Amen.
