A Small Note from Virginia Knowles
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Hope Chest friends,Many of my tidbits are really more like epics, but this one will truly be short!Thank you for your continued prayers for me as I undergo medical tests on my thyroid. I had the uptake and scans done on Thursday and Friday. Yesterday afternoon, someone from Florida Hospital's radiology department called and said that the ultrasound I had done last month at another facility wasn't clear enough for them to prepare for the biopsy on Tuesday. I need to go in Monday morning to get a new ultrasound done, but first I have to show up at my endocrinologist's office and get them to write out a new ultrasound prescription. Please pray that this will all occur in a timely fashion, and that our insurance will cover the second ultrasound. Our "school" has had to take the back burner in the past week or so with all the running around, but "school" happens in the context of real life, and real life provides quite an education as it is!I have been so pleased with Florida Hospital and their thoroughness and courtesy. It is also such a blessing to walk through their halls and see the Scripture verses and Biblical artwork and photographs that adorn the walls. With that in mind, I think you'll enjoy this lovely web movie that home school author Lorraine Curry passed along to her e-mail newsletter readers: http://www.dayspring.com/movies/webmovies/psalm23.html (I've been listening to the audio track from this web site as I've been writing this tidbit. The piano music is beautiful and soothing! Do be sure to click on the link!)Dear readers, we don't know what the future holds, but we know Who holds the future. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). I want to use this time -- and the rest of my life -- to be bold for Jesus. He is using this testing time to send me into a new "mission field" -- medical facilities where there are a lot of hurting and fearful people who need the grace of God. I can't count how many Gospels of John (both English and Spanish) that I've been able to give away as I go in and out for this test and that. To be able to face uncertainty with joyful confidence is the witness and testimony that God seems to be working through me. Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, as nothing can separate me from his love. In all that we have been through, especially in this last year, he has never let me down. You can trust him!Andrew Murray wrote, "God is ready to assume full responsibility for the life wholly yielded to him." You can't go wrong in turning over yourself completely to his care. If you haven't done this already or if you have started to reclaim what you had relinquished to him, may I encourage you to give it all to Jesus now? He can handle it better than you can. If Jesus is just a part of your life, I pray that you will see him in all his glory, and pursue him with all of your might. He doesn't want a piece of us, he wants all of us. That's when he can show forth the full measure of his mercy.A few Scripture passages may encourage you:
- Philippians 4:4-8
- Habakkuk 3:17-19
- Hebrews 4:16
- Romans 8:28-39
- James 1:2-4
As you read this, please don't put me on the pedestal of a sweet serene saint. I'm not. I can be feisty, lazy and a host of other undesirable things. Jesus alone is worthy of your praise. If you see any good in me, it's because he put it there. He gave me "beauty for ashes" (Isaiah 61:3).~*~*~What's ahead for the Hope Chest in the next month? My sweet 16 year old daughter Mary has finished up her draft copy of the next Hope Chest, which features an interview with Dr. Stan Oakes, President of The King's College. She will send it to him for any necessary revisions, and then hopefully have it ready in about a week. In about two weeks, if my life hasn't been turned upside down with more medical stuff, I'm looking forward to sending an issue with reviews of the resources listed below. Actually, these "diversions" have been a boon to me because I use my "drive time" in the car to listen to the tapes, and my waiting room time to read the books. What a deal! Here's what's coming:
- Easy Homeschooling Companion by Lorraine Curry
- Days of Creation Unit Study by Stephanie Romero
- Don't Waste Your Life! by John Piper
- The Gospel for Children by John Leuzander
- The Godly Home tape series by Denny Kenaston
- The Prairie River series by Kristiana Gregory
If you have comments on any of these, please send them along and I'll try to include some with my reviews.In His Sovereign Grace,Virginia Knowles
