Time to vote!

Posted by: homenews <homenews@...>

Hello Hope Chest friends,

"Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote...
that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society
for which he is accountable to God and his country."
Samuel Adams

Just a friendly reminder to go vote, if you haven't already!  This 2004 election is so crucial for American families.  It seems like just yesterday that we were facing the 2000 elections.   Did any of us ever imagine how close that presidential race would be, dragging on for weeks and weeks, and hinging on a mere 537 votes in Florida?  I am so thankful that George Bush was proclaimed the victor, and I pray that he will prevail again.  I don't even like to think of the alternative.  Please remember that this is a very close election between two candidates who are anything but close in their views.  Your vote makes a difference.

In October 2002, James Dobson reported, "Voter apathy among Christians is alarmingly high.  In the 2000 presidential election, more than 2 out of every 5 evangelicals failed to exercise their privilege to cast a ballot.  Given the fact that it can take as little as 20 minutes... there is no excuse not to vote.  Now, more than ever, it is critical that men and women of faith bring their convictions to bear upon the world around them."

Before you go, take the time to check out what is on your ballot beyond the big races --including amendments, school board and other local candidates, judges to be retained, etc.  Write your choices down to take to the polling place with you so you won't scratch your head trying to remember who is who and what is what.  For example, Florida has amendments related to parental notification of abortion (I'm voting for this amendment 1) and casino slot machines (I'm voting against this amendment 4), etc.  Mel Martinez is a pro-family U.S. Senate candidate.  Ric Keller, also strongly pro-family, is up for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives.  For Seminole County School Board district 4, Sylvia Pond is the clear pro-family choice.

The more informed you are, the better you will be able to vote!

Go make your voice heard!

Blessings,
Virginia Knowles
