Twelve sons of Jacob, people of Israel,
As many stones to mark on Jordan's banks,
The parting of waters by God, a sign to tell
Their sons of loyal love, and give Him thanks.
Twelve men to follow the Master's narrow path,
As many thrones, to judge by heaven's commands,
A church to build, by belief and change and bath,
Among the distant nations in faraway lands.
Twelve months, a day at a time, to serve,
As many hours of light to work for faith,
The glory of God for man in full reserve,
For peace and pardon, the Spirit's powerful breath.
