Dear Hope Chest friends,As many of you know, severe tornadoes ripped through the southern USA on Tuesday, killing at least 56 people. Angie Rangel, one of our Hope Chest readers and "We Are Praying" team members, sent me the following prayer request about Union University, a small Baptist college in Tennessee. It is time to intercede for our brothers and sisters there! If any of you live near Jackson, Tennessee, there is an urgent need for housing since 80% of the dorms were destroyed or damaged.(If you have a personal prayer request for your family or someone you know, or something of general interest to the home schooling community, the "We Are Praying" team of several dozen ladies around the country would love to intercede for you. You can e-mail your request to [email protected] or visit www.VirginiaKnowles.com/WeArePraying for more information. Your privacy is important, so I am the only one who sees the actual names and e-mail addresses, and I edit out any very confidential information before sending out the requests to the list.)Blessings,Virginia KnowlesP.S. At 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening, the Union University campus was devastated by serious tornadic activity, resulting in extensive damage to the facilities. Following a nearly five-hour emergency effort, all students -- including the 13 who were trapped in the fallen rubble -- were rescued. Fifty-one students were taken to the hospital, nine of whom suffered serious injury. By God's providence, no lives were lost.
Seventeen buildings received some kind of damage. Approximately 40 percent of the dorms were destroyed, and another 40 percent were severely damaged. Additional damage has been observed in other academic and administrative buildings. The damage from this storm exceeds the impact of the 2002 tornado by 15-fold. At this time, we want to thank everyone who has given help, provided service and offered ongoing prayer on behalf of Union University. We thank God for His providential care. With the help of God, we will move forward together.
Finally, I want to offer highest commendations for our students and the Student Life Team, who have handled this challenge in amazing ways. For your friendship, your support and your ongoing prayers for Union, we are most grateful.Faithfully,

Union UniversityUPDATE: Specifically, please pray that God would bring families along who are willing to open up their homes to students who don't have a place to stay. If any of you live in or near Jackson, please consider this opportunity: As you probably know, 80 percent of Union's student housing was either destroyed or severely damaged. With students coming from 45 states and 36 nations, housing them once we resume classes will be a real need.
