update on girls and GED

The girls will be finishing their "mandatory" orientation classes tomorrow. They both scored well enough on the English assessment test that no classes are required...PTL! For math, Ashlyn got a level 4 and Makenzie got a 3 with 6 being the highest possible level. Makenzie was expecting lower scores as she has not done nearly as much work as Ashlyn has and has struggled to remember what she's learned. Both girls will attend classes at the GED center every day starting Monday. Both are scheduled for some babysitting jobs but can do their classes around their work. They will start at their individual levels and work on their weak areas. Ashlyn has done a small amount of geometry, a few pages of algebra and no trigonometry so it's surprising that she scored a 4 in math. This was also their first experience taking academic tests with a time limit and on computers, so all in all, I'm relieved and can now relax about all of it. Makenzie admitted to the teachers that when she was younger, she would tell me she had done her schoolwork when she really hadn't. I told her what she didn't learn then, she will have to learn now. Ashlyn is younger, but has always worked harder and longer on her school subjects. I was also pleased to hear both girls took leadership roles in their groups even though they were younger than the other students. With scores higher than expected, Makenzie will hopefully be more optimistic now. She has been stressed, unsure, nervous and negative about the whole process. One the phone a few minutes ago, she committed to working hard every day, seven days a week if necessary so she can finish the GED by the end of the year.We are in the midst of a big storm....really dark clouds, lots of thunder and lightning, some wind beginning to blow, and what appears to be an approaching downpour. Glad I get to stay home tonight! Lisa NM--Shortcuts:
