The following principles of leadership emerge from biblical teaching: 1. Christian leaders should be certain that their goal is to serve God and others, not to receive the title or honor that comes with leadership. 2. Leaders should not use their position for their own advantage or comfort. No task should be “beneath” them – although some tasks may be delegated. They should not ask others to do what they are unwilling to do themselves. 3. Leaders will seek to distinguish their own preferences from the will and welfare of the group as a whole. 4. Normally the position should seek the leader. There may be some situations in which persons may apply or volunteer. Nevertheless, when someone strongly desires a particular responsibility, his or her motivation should be carefully examined. 5. We must learn to see each other as valuable to the Lord and basically equal in his sight.

USA - ARE You SEEING THIS??

I would be very interested in comments from the USA on this - or
Europe or the UK which have been facing similar trends. A Gallup
poll in the USA reported last week that 55% of Americans believe
that America is still in a Recession or a Depression - despite the
government pronouncements of a 'recovery'. What they are seeing
just doesn't match up.

This tallies with another April poll showing that 47% of Americans
rate the economy "poor" and 19.2% report being underemployed.

I believe that America and much of the Western world is currently
going through a great "purging" that is set to last for years. Much
of the excess and shallowness of the "Go-go" years will be purged
from people's thinking. I believe many will be in a place to seek God
again. This process is very painful, but I believe it is necessary to
see true spiritual values come to the forefront once more. I expect
this "long grind" to last for years yet. Sorry to be the bearer of bad
news! But long term I believe great good will come from it all -
especially in turning Westerners from materialism toward spiritual
Truth. When we pray for "Revival" sometimes I don't think we
realize what it may take to get us there!

For those in the USA, please share with us what you are seeing
there. Does unemployment still seem terribly bad where you are?
What is the true state of the economy that you are seeing? And
what effect is it having, do you feel, on the average American?
