by J. Randal MathenyWar, that hellish clash of arms,
Of blood and gore, of death and harms
To fragile limb and weaker heart;
That injures man's innermost part,
Whose horror in the night recoils,
Whose terror numbers not as spoils.
Inhuman powers bent to destroy
Devour all men and steal their joy.
How fitting, then, this wretched view,
The fields of war which millions slew,
To cast in sharp and stark relief
The soul's defense of faith's new leaf,
Against the vilest, fiercest foe,
