Web links for Christian resources

Posted by: virginiaknowles <virginiaknowles@...>

Dear friends,

After all the hassle of sending out yesterday's Hope Chest issue, you ended up with 3 copies in your inboxes!  Thanks for your patience!  Today I want to pass along several Christian resources that I hope you will find helpful for outreach, creationism, counseling, marriage building, news, and home education.  Just click on the imbedded links to see the web sites.  Please forward it along to friends in your home school support group or church.

The Old Schoolhouse Magazine is offering two free WeE-Books, which are bite-sized downloadable booklets by Deborah Wuehler.    Today is the 200th birthday of both Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin, so the first one, Lincoln vs. Darwin: What's the Difference? is a comparison of their lives and worldviews.  It even includes easy-to-use copywork pages from Lincoln's quotes.  The second e-booklet, Home Schooling the Rebel, is full of sound and practical ideas.

One of the links mentioned in the Lincoln vs. Darwin e-book is Creation Ministries International, http://www.creationontheweb.com. (After March 1, the web site will be http://www.Creation.com.) They have a Creation for Kids pageextensive information on Darwinism, and a list of discredited arguments NOT to use.

To teach your children the creationist perspective, be sure order the free trial issue of Creation Illustrated.  This beautiful full-cover quarterly magazine has 68 pages per issue and includes activities and puzzles for kids.

The Pocket Testament League (http://www.pocketpower.org) offers free copies of the Gospel of John in various Bible versions and cover styles that you can give away to people that you meet.   Our family has been doing this off and on for many years, and my son Andrew just asked me to order more to give away at our youth group's rummage sales later this month.  You can get up to 30 a month.  They also have a free download of the audio book "Share Jesus Without Fear".  I have seen that book (in print form) in our church bookstore, so it must be pretty good!  I couldn't find the exact link when I was poking around today, but I know when you go through the Join the League link, it will come up somewhere along the way. There is also an evangelistic Flash presentation called The Umbrella Analogy that you can share with your friends.

Download the free e-book 15 Minutes to a Better Homeschool Marriage by the folks at http://www.RealLifeMarriages.com and First Class Homeschool Ministries.  (Please note that Five in a Row curriculum publisher Steve Lambert, who is on the board of FCHM, has been in the hospital with a subdural hematoma.  You can  leave a get well message on the discussion forum.)

Family Life Today (http://www.familylife.com) has a wonderful web site full of articles and other resources.  You can even sign up to receive the free daily e-mail for the Love Dare, as featured in the excellent movie Fireproof which is now available on DVD).   You will start getting them on February 14.

My best picks for Christian books on marriage?

The Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation, (http://www.ccef.org) offers Biblical resources by authors such as Paul David Tripp, David Powlison and Ed Welch.  These are the ones our own pastors recommend and I have found them to be very helpful.  Another related organization is the National Association of Nouthetic Counselors (http://www.nanc.org), a vital resource for training in Biblical counseling.  (Please pass this link along to your pastors or local counseling ministry.)  One of our pastors and a family physician from our church are at a NANC training program right now, in hopes that they can set up a Biblical counseling ministry as a community outreach in our church, Metro Life

Looking for news from a conservative Christian perspective?  The American Family Association hosts the One News Now web site.  You can sign up for the Daily News Brief by e-mail to make it even more convenient!

If you want to make lovely cards for many occasions (including Valentine's Day) check out the free instruction pages at Card Inspirations.  Note: this is not a Christian site, but I found it in an e-mail newsletter from The Teaching Home Magazine, which is a Christian home schooling on-line magazine.  I was published a few times in The Teaching Home when it was a print magazine many years ago!  So were my friends Meredith Curtis (http://www.joyfulandsuccessfulhomeschooling.com/) and Cheryl Bastian (http://www.CherylBastian.com) whose web sites are full of great stuff like reading lists and inspiration.  The three of us may do a "home school for high school panel" at a local library some time in the next couple of months, so if you want me to let you know about that, e-mail me at virginiaknowles@gmail.com and request to be put on my local announcements list.

OK, I guess that's enough for now!  Please let me know specifically which of these links are helpful to you.

Blessings,

Virginia Knowles
