Web site links, Write On classes, Communicators for Christ, plus upcoming unit study on "Kings and Queens"

Dear Hope Chest friends,

If any of you have my web site linked on your own web pages, would you be so kind as to change it to http://www.virginiaknowles.com?  It's up and running!   I have added a few new articles and links in the past day or so, including "Saving Money on Health Care" (which I originally wrote for Debbie Klinect's Along the Journey newsletter) and "Living and Learning in the Sovereign Hand of God" (which links to the article I wrote for The Old Schoolhouse Magazine a while back).   I have also added a Hess Family Heritage page for my relatives, but you might find it interesting also.

As I transition to this new web site, I would like to say a hearty thank you to Susie Fleenor, who has so graciously hosted my old web site for many years.  Bless you, Susie!  You are a treasure!

I am preparing a Hope Chest issue -- for either June or July -- with a unit study on the topic of Kings and Queens.     If any of you have any great stuff for me, send it along.   This could included a description of what you have done in your family, or a book recommendation, or a web link, a question for me, or whatever.

It's time for summer enrollment for Gwen Simmons' writing courses, which I highly recommend.  Please see her new web site at http://www.writeonagain.com for complete descriptions of Write On!  and Excellent Essays! and now her brand new DVD called Just Write! An Interactive Adventure in Writing. (I'll be reviewing this DVD soon.) You may email Gwen with questions at [email protected]  or [email protected].

And finally, a blurb for the Communicators for Christ public speaking conferences from my friend Denise Carr.  Please note that while this announcement is for a conference in Central Florida, CFC has conferences in other locations as well!  http://www.communicatorsforchrist.com

Dear Friends -

I am a homeschool mom in Longwood, FL.  Last year I took my children to a conference that is continuing to have quite an impact on their lives.  It was called "Communicators for Christ" (CFC) and it was a public speaking/debate conference designed for any child aged 7 through high school.  My children were initially reluctant to go, but after attending they are now excited about public speaking.

The reason why?  They discovered that public speaking can actually be FUN, and they came to understand that every Christian young person NEEDS to become an excellent communicator because once you identify with Christ, you are communicating for Christ. The great news I have to share with you is that if you live in Central Florida you don't have to drive a long distance to go to a CFC Conference because CFC is coming to Orlando.  For the first time in 10 years, CFC will be in our area to run their conference from August 1-4 at Westview Baptist Church (just off I-4 near the Seminole Town Center  and the Sanford/Heathrow exit on the North East side of Orlando).

There is a 1 day conference for children aged 7-11, a 2 day speech conference for 12 & up, and a 2 day debate conference for age 12 and up.  Parents attend for free.  If you have friends outside the area, free host housing is available.  You can get more information at http://www.communicatorsforchrist.com

If you would prefer to have a young person come to talk to your group about the first-hand benefits of Communicators for Christ, we have some ready and eager to do that!  The International Community School, Home Grown Kids, Northland Church and Near Him Home Educators have all been encouraged by a student speaker who best explained the program from a kid's perspective.

Don't let this opportunity pass you by - I can say without hesitation that this is one of the best investments in my children's education that I have made.  Feel free to email with any questions.  Blessings, Denise Carr [email protected]

I think that's all for now!

Thanks!
