Hello Hope Chest friends! Here are a few little extras for you. I'll send the weekly Tidbit on Sunday.Virginia KnowlesWEB SITESVirtual Solar System scale model(Thanks to Kim Mitchell and Debora Frame)Admission to USA National Parks is free on August 25 to celebrate anniversary of park system. http://www.nps.gov/(Thanks to Phil Kent and Leisa Lee)Fly Lady -- how to do home and life organization(Thanks to Pamela Zelen for reminding me of this!)von Trapp Children: http://www.vontrappchildren.comUpdate on Russian orphans story:(There is a later update on the Orlando Sentinel sight, too.)INTELLIGENT DESIGN SEMINAR[Virginia's note: Stan Hahn ([email protected]) sent this information. Stan was in a writer's class with me many years ago. He is the author of Lessons in the Tall Grasses, a creationist novel set in India which would be a great resource for middle and high school students. I can't pesonally vouch for the perspective of the conference, but it should be interesting!]On Saturday October 25 the Northland Faith and Science Study Group (Intelligent Design Consortium) will be conducting a one day Intelligent Design Seminar at a hotel in Central Florida. We figured that many homeschoolers will want to bring their older children. Speakers will be Michael Behe and Walter Bradley, two nationally preeminent scientists in the field. I do feel it would be appropriate only for advanced middle school and high school students. If you have any links to people or groups who might be interested in attending, please forward this site to them. www.sciencespeaks.com/ I have been associated with this group for two years and could not be more impressed with the variety of exceptional professionals it has given me access to. ~~ Stan HahnFor more information on Michael Behe, click here for the Access Research Network:MORE ON ROD & STAFF / MILLER STORY BOOKSOn-line source for Rod & Staff Publishers books: http://www.rodstaff.netFrom Tammy Alvarez: Virginia: Just a note - we, too, enjoy books provided by Rod and Staff. My husband is reading Little Missionaries (but the Spanish version) to my two children and has now moved on to the second book, More Little Missionaries (Spanish version). He also had read Daniel and Juanita en la case de los abuelos (in the house of the grandparents). We have read the great book A Hive of Busy Bees and also have Wisdom and the Millers (and workbook) which we will read this year plus maybe next year, we will read Prudence and the Millers. I also have used 3rd grade English and beginning the 4th grade book this year with my daughter. It is, to me, easy to use (you need the teacher's edition to do it "right"). I have also used their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade penmanship program. It is printed on good paper and teaches manuscript, slant print and cursive. From Kym Valk: Virginia, I just read your note about Missionary Stories and the Millers and wanted to add my note. Not only is our copy dog-eared, but it is "tear-stained" because I can barely make it throug a story without getting choked up--even though I know how it turns out and God prevails (which usually makes me cry even more)! My children and I love to read them aloud together but Merisa (my practical one) knows to get a box of tissue when she sees me pull out the book and sit on the couch.
