by J. Randal MathenyWere this world perfect, heaven we'd have on earth,
We'd celebrate each man and woman's worth;
Our work we'd see as pleasure, enjoy our rest,
And hold our children long and close to our breast.Were this world perfect, I would also be
A perfect man, and you and I'd agree;
We'd never need forgive the other's sin,
Nothing I'd do to wear your patience thin.Were this world perfect, a word would be a bond,
A promise as good as done; we'd go beyond
The first short mile to carry a neighbor's load,
We'd go with him that second mile of the road.Were this world perfect, then there'd be no need
For government, for laws to contain our greed,
For jails to keep transgressors off the street,
For caution against a vendor's smooth deceit.Were this world perfect, we'd have no keen desire
For another Place, for heaven's bright attire,
Where God is reigning on his glorious throne,
And all will know the Lord as we are known.Were this world perfect, -- ah, but don't we know,
There's no such world as this on earth below!
This world is good, that we might grow and learn,
And daily for that perfect world we yearn.1. Say something at this link. Leave your first name,
