What Can the Righteous Do? (Part 1)

Psalm 11:3, "If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?"

I would not like to become a doomsayer, but I would like to consider the
possibility that in our day we could -- if we have not already done so --
come to the place as a nation that we are beyond the "point of no return".

You may say, "How so?" If the foundations of our nation have been
destroyed, it would seem that all that the righteous may do would not be
able to turn away the judgments of God.

In speaking of His judgments upon wickedness in (Ezekiel 14), God says
that, "Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they
should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness". Again, we read
(II Chronicles chapter 34) of a time when Josiah, king of Judah, had found
out how terribly his people had departed from the Law of God. He proceeded
to do everything within his power to set things in order. However, the
message came back from God that His judgments for the sins already committed
by that people would certainly come.

"The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God."
(Psalm 9:17)

Our country has forgotten God:

By taking prayer and the Bible out of schools,

By having other gods such as sports, movie stars (or the movies themselves),
TV, ungodly music, etc.,

By taking God's name in vain and dragging it through the mud of foul
language,

By forgetting to keep the Sabbath day holy,

By declaring innocent, unborn babies to be non-persons (just as many used to
denigrate black slaves), and proceeding to kill them by the millions,

By disregarding marriage vows and breaking down the family unit,

By disrespect for parents and the elderly, and having a disposition to
"dispose" of them, or at least to abdicate responsibility for them,

By giving license to, and making a profit from, drunkenness, gambling, and
tobacco abuse,

By condoning all varieties of immoral sexual deviation, including "self
abuse", pornography, premarital sex, "free" sex, prostitution, adultery,
rape, incest, bestiality, and homosexuality (sodomy),

By turning justice on its head so that our guy, or our pocket book, might
not be hurt,

By treating truth, honor, and justice as though they were relative, and
treating falsehood, disgrace, and inequity as valuable assets, or at best as
though they were weaknesses to be overlooked for the greater good.

And, by so forgetting God, the foundations have been -- or are well on the
way to being -- destroyed.

What can the righteous do?
