What Can the Righteous Do? (Part 3)

Psalm 11:3, "If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?"

In Part 1, I dealt with the destruction of our nation's spiritual and
moral foundations.  In Part 2, I tried to deal with the principle of "saving
ourselves" and helping others, regardless of whether we could rescue our
nation.  Now, I intend to delve into the possibility of the influence of the
righteous upon the salvation of our nation.

I might say here that, even if our nation goes down in spite of all our
efforts, it is worth the attempt to rescue it.  Christ came and died for
multitudes that will never be saved (who would not avail themselves of His
love and grace), because He loved them.  Also, Noah made a valiant attempt
to rescue his world as a "preacher of righteousness" (II Peter 2:5), but he
only saw his family saved in the ark.  It is not for "success", as
understood by the limited thinking of mankind, that we are to labor.

Rather, we should labor to be faithful before God in seeking for His
will to "be done in earth as it is in heaven".  As much as it is within our
power to influence our nation for God, we should do so.  The very meaning of
righteousness does not allow us to bury our heads in the sand, or to run
from the battle.  We are to be "a city set on a hill", letting our "light so
shine before men that they may see" our "good works and glorify" our "Father
which is in Heaven."  We are to be the salt of the earth, "but if the salt
has lost its savor wherewith shall it be seasoned.  It is thenceforth good
for nothing, but to be cast out and to be trodden under foot of men."

Those who truly are righteous love this country, and they should act on
that love with valiant efforts to see it saved.

What specifically can the righteous do to help our nation?

The righteous CAN:

Pray "effectual, fervent prayer" which "availeth much",

Exemplify the principles of the Bible,

Testify about the true God, Who can satisfy the hungry soul,

Continue the wonderful trend of developing excellent Christian, church-run
schools, where our children are trained up in the way they should go,

Revere God's name and kindly reprove those who use it in vain,

Keep the Sabbath day holy,

Fight for the lives of the unborn and other innocents targeted for
destruction by the ungodly,

Contend for holy matrimony and the family as God designed it,

Honor fathers, mothers, and all the elderly,

Use one's influence and voting privilege to defeat alcoholic beverages,
tobacco, drugs and gambling,

Speak out against all forms of sexual immorality and give young people a
Biblical "sex education",

Vote against the judicial officials -- when possible -- who are responsible
for turning justice upside down,

Insist that ALL our "public servants" be held accountable for their actions,

Hold fast to all absolute Truth and eternal principles of right and wrong.

And I pray that God will bless and help us to do these things with a sweet
spirit for His glory and for the good of all mankind.
