What is Truth?
Quote from Forum Archives on August 10, 2015, 10:13 amPosted by: bneumann848 <bneumann848@...>
Pilate said to
Him, Then You are a King? Jesus answered, You say it! [You have spoken
correctly!] For I am a King. This is why I was born, and for this I have come
into the world, to bear witness to the Truth. Everyone who is of the Truth [who
is a friend of the Truth, who belongs to the Truth] hears and listens to My
voice. Pilate said to Him, What is Truth? On saying this he went out…” John 18:
37-38a Amplified
When He stood before
Caiaphas (the high priest) and Annas (Caiaphas’ father-in-law), Jesus is
recorded as having said very little. They knew the law and the prophets, they
knew what had been prophesied about the coming Messiah, yet their hearts had
turned from following the Father’s voice to following the dictates of religious
tradition.
With Pilate (the
Roman governor), however, Jesus was more vulnerable. They were having an open
dialogue. Jesus began to speak to him of Truth - God’s truth. Pilate asked,
“What is truth?” Perhaps it was spoken mockingly. The world views truth as
multi-faceted, with multiple versions of “truth” that change with the winds
like the sands on the seashore - it all depends on the beliefs of the person you
ask. Perhaps the question was asked in sadness. Pilate had undoubtedly
witnessed so many lies told by those jockeying for position and favor that real
truth might seem hard to come by.
What is truth?
Truth was looking him right in the eyes. Jesus stood before him – the greatest
Truth of all! But instead of waiting to hear the answer, instead of truly
seeing what was right before his eyes, he turned and walked out. How different
his life might have been – and indeed much of the known world - if only he had
stayed until he saw the Truth.
Lord Jesus, may
we come into Your presence and linger there until we truly see You.To subscribe: <adevotionalgroup-subscribe@welovegod.org>
