Win95: BSOD?: Fatal Exception Error

Posted by: handly <handly@...>

For the last two days I have been getting Windows 95's Blue Screen Of
Death (BSOD) for fatal exception errors. I have note been able to tell
what is generating them

1. I have the original unaltered Win95.
2. Yesterday, the SW Bell DSL Installer contractor installed the DSL
related software: NIC (Ethernet Card) and SWBell's other DSL software.
During the installation of the NIC software, Win95 wanted the original
Win95 CD. Since IBM only provided me with a recovery disk with Win95 in
Zip files, not CAB files, the installer used his Win95C CD.

{NOTE: I cannot use the DSL connection because other parts of SBC
Communications had not provided the DSL signal to my home.}

While the technician was trying to get the DSL signal, and since then, I
have been getting Fatal exception error. Most often I am not doing
anything when it occurs. The message's exception has been 0D and 6D,
the location has been 0028:C1036864 in VXD MSTPCP(01)+00001684 or
C10368C1 or 00000017 and the + value has been +00001684 or 000016EE1

Example follows:

"A fatal exception 0D has occurred at 0028:C1036864 in VXD
MSTPCP(01)+00001684. The current application will be terminated. Press
any key to terminate the application. Press CTRL-ALT-DEL to reboot."

I have been pressing any key.

1. What could be wrong?
2. How do I fix it?
3. Does it make a difference if I don't doing about the error?

Thanks

Brian
