Word for Today: Mon, 29 June 2009: Have You Decided to Follow Jesus?

Dear friends,The writer of this devotional message reminds us of the chorus of an old
hymn:I have decided to follow Jesus...
Though none go with me, still I will follow,
No turning back, no turning back!I want to ask each of you today if you have decided to follow Jesus?
Most of you, if you read the messages that I send, know something about
Jesus. If you read every message I've sent, you will know "the Plan of
Salvation" and you will know what it means to be saved and why it is
important that every one of us is saved - from the certain peril that
awaits if we fail to answer the call and accept the free gift of salvation.Today's message, then, is appropriate. Have you decided to follow
Jesus? If not, what's holding you back? If yes, are you continuing to
follow Him, or have you become backslidden in your ways?No matter where we come from - if we think we are righteous, though we
are not - or if we are lowly and know it, but are afraid to act, this
message and this invitation is for you - and for me. The big question
then is what we decide to do with it, and each of us has personal
choices to make that will affect our future - our eternal future. For those who have been saved from sin, this message is still
appropriate, because even the redeemed are prone to wander, like a sheep
gone astray. The Bible, in Isaiah 53:6, says: "We all, like sheep, have
gone astray. Each of us has turned to our own way, and the Lord has
laid upon Him the iniquity of us all".This is a prophetic message, indicating that God would send a Savior,
Jesus Christ, into the world to save it because every single person
needs it. The sad fact is that not every single person will be saved
because not every single person will accept the gift. The other sad
thing is that even those who accept the gift often forget the great
price it took our Savior to secure that gift - a sinless life of
suffering and humiliating, painful death - not for deeds that He had
done, but for our sake.I appeal therefore to everyone. Christians, renew your minds with the
Word of God every single day! Potential Christians, get into the Bible,
too, and check out the claims that are being made here, and make a
decision now. Not making a decision is actually making a decision - a
wrong and eternally costly one - and I want to shout and rescue the
perishing!Yours in Christ,
Brian--
