God Remembers
GOD REMEMBERS
Jere. 31:20
INTRODUCTION:
- Memory refers to the ability to retain or revive in the mind past thoughts, images, ideas, etc.
- The fact that God remembers is awesome
- But these memories are “earnest” memories. Webster defines earnest as, “1. serious and intense; not joking or playful; zealous and sincere; deeply convinced. 2. important; not petty or trivial”
- GOD REMEMBERS UNREPENTED SIN
- Some people think that God either doesn’t see or will forget
- Hosea 7:2, “And they consider not in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness: now their own doings have beset them about; they are before my face.”
- Rev. 16:19, “Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath”
- But Hebrews 8:12 tells us that when we repent, “[God] will be merciful to [our] unrighteousness, and [our] sins and [our] iniquities will [he] remember no more”
- Jere. 31:34, says that if we know the Lord, “[He] will forgive [our] iniquity, and [He] will remember [our] sin no more”
II. GOD REMEMBERS OUR PRAYERS
- 2 Chron. 7:17, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
- Rev. 8:4, “And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, went up before God out of the angel’s hand”
- Rev. 5:8 tells how our prayers are kept in golden vials and described as “full of odours, which are the prayers of saints”
III. GOD REMEMBERS OUR VOWS
- Obedience & faithfulness to God, labor & love for others
- Ec. 5:4, “When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools”
IV. GOD REMEMBERS HIS LOVE FOR US
- At least a half dozen scriptures tell us that God will remember His covenant with man
- Jere 31:3, “Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee”
- Ps. 78:38-39, “But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath. For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.”
- Ps. 98:2-3, “The Lord hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen. He hath remembered his mercy and his truth”
- 1 Jn. 3:16, “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren”
