Get
Back

I will
arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against
heaven and before you, and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me
like one of your hired servants.” - Luke 15:18-19 NKJV.

Eric Steward says he just wanted to take a “nice
peaceful drive,”
but ended up making a wrong turn. The
81-year-old man drove for nine hours, and about 400 miles (643 km) from Yass,
NSW to Geelong, Victoria in Australia, before asking for help. He finally
stopped, and asked a police officer to help him. He gave the officer his cell
phone, so he could talk to his wife, and the officer was able to help him find
his way home.

There's an old Beatles song called “Get Back.” A few of the lyrics are:

Go home

Get back, get back

Back to where you once belonged

Get back, get back

Back to where you once belonged

Get back Jo Jo

The Prodigal Son of Luke 15 was not really lost in
the physical sense like Eric Steward. The Prodigal Son knew where he was, and
he knew where home was at. However, the Prodigal Son has a lot in common with
Eric in that he took a wrong turn in life, and he just kept on going. They both
finally reached a point where the ride was no longer fun, and they just wanted
to go home - back to where they belonged. To get back where they belonged, they
both had to swallow some pride.

Are you off track with your life? You know you took a wrong turn back there
somewhere, but how do you get back on the right track? How do you get back to
where you belong?

Step one to get back to where you belong is to swallow your pride and ask for
help. Ask your Heavenly Father to help you to return to where you know you
should be. If there are sins that have led you astray, confess them, and
forsake them.

Step two to get back to where you belong is to do what you know you should be
doing spiritually. You know you need to pray. Jesus said,
“Men ought
to always pray (Luke 18:1).”
Set some time away every day,
even if it is only for a few minutes that you are going to visit with your Lord,
and talk with Him about what is going on in your life. Read your Bible, even if
it is only a verse or two every day. Jesus said,
“Man shall
not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God
(Matthew 4:4).”
Attend church regularly and faithfully, unless you are
providentially hindered from doing so. The writer of Hebrews gives us this
command,
“And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good
works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of
some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day
approaching (Hebrews 10:24-25).”

Step Three, to get back to where you belong, is to continually repeat Step One
and Step Two.

Go Home! Back to where you once belonged.
