Time Travel

Paul, a bondservant of God and an
apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect and the
acknowledgment of the truth which accords with godliness, in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised
before time began
. – Titus 1:1-2 NKJV.

For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time
and then vanishes away.

– James 4:14b NKJV.

Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. – Colossians 4:5 NKJV.

To everything there is a season, a time for every
purpose under heaven. – Ecclesiastes 3:1 NKJV.

For I am already being poured out as a drink
offering, and the time of my
departure is at hand. – 2 Timothy 4:6 NKJV.

In the movie “Back to the Future” Marty McFly travels back in time in a nuclear
powered DeLorean. Being attack by terrorists, Marty jumps in the DeLorean
zooming off until the car, and Marty are zapped back in time. Apparently,
someone tried to recreate the scene, although he just had a gasoline powered
Dodge Challenger. He did succeed in traveling through the front of a tax
preparation business, but missed the Pensacola Caskets business located next
door. The car crashed through the entire building coming to a stop at the back.
Thankfully, no one was at work on a Sunday morning, and the driver was not
injured. He was, however, taken to a facility for a mental evaluation, which
may have had something to do with his saying he was attempting to “time travel.”
(Pensacola News
Journal 12.15.16; New York Daily News 12.14.16)

Is time travel possible? That is a question many would
like to answer in the affirmative. The creators of the comic superheroes increased
the fascination with the idea of time travel having Superman zooming around the
earth until he goes back or forward in time. The Flash character could do the
same thing. Of course the iconic science fiction novel by H. G. Wells in 1895
stirred interest in the subject. Wells was the creator of the term “time machine” in his novel. Time travel,
in movies and novels, has been portrayed countless times since.

The word “time,”
depending upon which translation is used, is mentioned more than 700 times in
the Bible. God makes it clear that there is a beginning to time and there will
be an ending to time as we know it. Before time began, God in His plan for
humanity, planned for eternal life (Titus 1:2).

The truth is that we do not need a nuclear
power Delorean to travel through time. Why? Because, we are all time travelers.
Every day and night we are journeying through time. All through our lives we
have been passing through time. Our lives are like a vapor (James 4:14) that appears for a brief time and then
passes away. During this brief journey through time there is important work for
us to accomplish. We need to redeem the time (Colossians
4:5)
and accomplish the purposes of God for our lives; because the time
of our departure (2 Timothy 4:6) is fast
approaching. If we know Jesus as our Savior we will soon pass from this journey
through time into eternity where time never ends.
