Finding
Treasure

I rejoice at Your word as one who finds great treasure. - Psalm
119:162 NKJV.

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field,
which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he
has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant
seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went
and sold all that he had and bought it. - Matthew 13:44-46 NKJV.

Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. -
Matthew 6:10 NKJV.

Many
have begun searching for treasure in San Francisco as part of the Northern
California Treasure Hunt. An anonymous donor is giving away money in a somewhat
novel way. The man is hiding envelopes with usually about $100 and then posting
clues from his Twitter account, HiddenCash. As you might expect, the number of
followers of that Twitter account has grown exponentially. As of this morning
the account has 256k followers. The man giving away the money claims to have
made a lot of money in real estate and wants to give back. The anonymous donor
says,
“I want
the spotlight on what I'm doing and trying to do. I have no plans to stop any time
soon. I'm planning to continue this indefinitely into the future.”

Envelopes of cash have been found taped in various places like dumpsters, stop
signs, and fire hydrants. The anonymous donor plans to expand the treasure hunt
to Los Angeles in the near future.

Have you ever found a treasure? Have you ever found any money or
something else of value? I remember when I was in our school’s high school band
and after marching in a parade I found a five dollar bill in the street. Since
I only had a dollar or two in my pocket, it was a very welcome surprise! A few
times I have found an Indian head penny and was always excited when I found
one. Years ago I bought a metal detector and thought I would find a lot of
treasure. I don’t think I ever found anything of value with the thing. However,
I have found great treasure.

What is the treasure I have found? I have found the Kingdom of Heaven! Although it was actually the Lord Jesus who
found me because He came to
“seek and
to save that which was lost (Luke 19:10).”
What is this “Kingdom of
Heaven”
aka “Kingdom of God” and where is it located? From Matthew 6:10 of the Lord’s Prayer we find the location of
this Kingdom. Where is it? The
Kingdom of
Heaven
is located wherever God
reigns. I found the
Kingdom of
Heaven
and Jesus found me when
He began to reign in my heart some 44 years ago.

Once the Kingdom of
Heaven
is reigning in our lives,
we will see that there are more treasures to find. The treasures of the
Kingdom of Heaven are beyond our imagination and will never
run out. One of the greatest treasures of the
Kingdom of Heaven is the Word of God, the Scriptures. What great riches we find through God’s Word!
God’s Holy Word gives us the daily spiritual sustenance we need
(Matthew 4:4). The Word of God is the “Sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17)” and is sharper than a two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). The Scriptures will keep us from sin (Psalm 119:11). This great treasure of God’s Word will never run out because it
is
“settled in Heaven (Psalm
119:89).”

How is your spiritual treasure hunt going? Have you found the Kingdom of Heaven? I pray that you have. Are you storing up
the treasure of God’s Word? I pray that you are.
