Who Would have Thought?

For with God nothing will be impossible. - Luke 1:37.

But Jesus looked at them and said, “With men it is impossible, but
not with God; for with God all things are possible.” - Mark 10:27.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes
to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who
diligently seek Him. By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet
seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household,
by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is
according to faith. - Hebrews 11:6-7.

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. -
Romans 10:17.

In the UK, 50% of those surveyed take photos
of their food. Nine percent do so every day! I’ve noticed on facebook it does
not matter where people live because people from all over the world take
pictures of their food. Birds Eye, a large frozen foods company, has decided to
take advantage of this obsession that we have with our food. The result is “The
Picture House” where you can take a photo of your food, upload it to Instagram,
and eat for free! No Joke! It’s true! Take a picture of your food and it’s
free! It is also great advertising for Birds Eye. Who would have thought that you could ever pay for the food you eat
by taking a photo of it? Amazing! (Mailonline 06.02.14)

The Picture House made me think of some other
things that are mind boggling. Who would
have thought
that crazy guy building the enormous ship on dry land was
right? Noah probably took a lot of criticism right up to the day the rains came
and kept on coming. Who would have
thought
a man sold into slavery by his brothers would eventually become the
second most powerful person in Egypt, and probably the world, and save his
family? Who would have thought that
80-year-old Hebrew guy hiding out from the Egyptians and herding sheep would
lead a couple of million of his people from slavery to freedom? Who would have thought marching around
the city of Jericho blowing horns, and shouting would make the walls of the
city fall down? Who would have thought
the 85-year-old Caleb could still fight battles against giants
(Joshua 14) and win? Who would have
thought
the Christian persecutor Saul would become the apostle Paul?

There are so many stories in the Bible that
boggle the mind and we have to think that the people during the time they
occurred were saying, “Who would have
thought…?”
I can look around today and say the same thing about some great,
but unknown servants of God and say “Who
would have thought…?”
I talked with a man last week who said that while in
prison he started a Bible study with three men and ended up before he was
released with 27 men in his Bible study. He is still attempting to reach people
for the Lord in whatever way that he can. There are several young men and women
today that while I was their pastor I did not have high hopes for, but who are
now living their lives for the Lord.

Not even I would have thought that I would someday
preach the Word of God and that people across the entire world would read my
words. Who would have thought…? The
mother of a fellow classmate of mine while I was growing up once told my wife
that she thought I was the least likely of any in my class to become a
preacher. It is likely that many others have thought the same thing, but have
not said it. There was very little indication in my early life that God was calling
me. However, I was having long talks with God long before I invited Him into my
heart in a pastor’s study in Oklahoma City. Unknown to me I had a great aunt
who was praying that I would be saved and that I would not miss God’s call as
her husband believed he had missed his call (She was praying the same for my
son, Clark, after he was born). My parents and others knew about her prayers,
but no one ever mentioned it to me until after I had publicly announced that
God had called me to preach. What is God calling you to do? I am praying that you
will not miss His call upon your life!
