What is the Problem?

For the wages of sin is death, but
the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 6:23 NKJV.

So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are
you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be
accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is
for you, but you should rule over it.” - Genesis 4:8 NKJV.

Therefore submit to God. Resist the
devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. –
James 4:7-8 NKJV.

For those who live according to the flesh set
their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually
minded is life and peace. –
Romans 8:5-6 NKJV.

33-year-old
James Jenkins led sheriff’s deputies on a wild high speed chase in Florida. In
an attempt to lose the deputies, Jenkins went off the road, crashed through hay
bales, and his vehicle went airborne several times until the car died from the
damage. But Jenkins wasn’t finished, he jumped out of the vehicle holding a
large beer can, and ran toward some trees. Not only did his car come to a stop
from the damage from the chase, but Jenkins also came to a stop from the damage
to his face when he crashed into a tree, which allowed deputies to arrest him.

During
the entire chase there was a child in a car seat in the back seat of the
vehicle. The child told deputies that he had been holding onto his car seat
with all his might during the incident. Thankfully, the child was not injured.
Jenkins was charged with several offenses including fleeing and eluding,
resisting arrest, habitually driving under suspension, and this is a surprise:
child neglect. Oh, almost forgot, he was also charged for the open can of beer
in the vehicle. (Palm Beach Post 06.17.16; Crestview News Bulletin 06.15.16)

Jenkins
is not the only one doing something stupid. Sonja Farak in Massachusetts got herself into some trouble. She had been the state crime lab chemist, but was fired in 2013 after being employed by the crime lab since 2005. What was she doing? She admitted to being high on illegal substances every day while working for the
lab. Here are some of the drugs she admitted to using: meth, ketamine, ecstasy
and LSD. (Washington Post 05.16.16)

In
Calhan, Colorado, 38-year-old Robert Williams during an argument with his wife threatened
his wife and daughter with a handgun. Williams told his daughter to get another
firearm so they could have a duel. Williams then shot at his daughter who
returned fire, but neither one were hit. While Williams went to find a shotgun,
the wife and daughter fled to safety of a neighbor’s house where they called
911. Williams has been charged with felonies of menacing, prohibited use of a
firearm, and child abuse. (Fox 31 06.02.16; KDVR Denver 06.02.16)

Then there
is 26-year-old Prolancia Turner who was at an
Outlet Mall in Vero Beach, Florida where she shoplifted at a Claire’s store. Turner
walked out of the store with earrings hidden in her clothing. Turner was angry
and crying about being arrested because…she said, “Everyone steals from this store. Why are
you picking on me?”
(Smoking Gun 05.19.16)

What in
the world is wrong with people? Why do people do such obviously wrong things?
What is the problem? The problem is simple. The
problem is SIN!
Sin = Death, because the wages of sin will always be death.
Sin will always bring bad things into your life. Sin will always hurt you, and
sin will always seek to destroy you. As the Lord said to Cain, “And if you do not do
well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you.”
Sin lies in
wait at your door too; its desire is for you, to devour you and all that is
good in your life.

Having
identified the problem, what is the solution? The solution to the age old sin
problem is still the same. Obedience to your God. Cain rejected that solution,
but you do not have to follow in Cain’s steps. You do not have to do one stupid
thing after another destroying your life, and the lives of those around you.
The solution to the sin problem is to do as the Bible says
“submit to
God.”
If you will “draw near
to God,” “He will draw near to you.”
