Live in the Light

"The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and upon those who
sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned." - Matthew 4:16.

Many people have remarked in the last few days about the hallway behind the
sanctuary. Most of you have noticed that it is quite different. The hall
used to be in a perpetual gloom, because of all that old dark, faded
paneling. Now, it has been brightened up significantly. All the old dark
paneling has been replaced with much brighter, textured walls.

I rarely mention people by name in these articles, but everyone needs to
thank Tom Bell for all the work he has done up here in the last two weeks.
He has put in countless hours on his days off from his regular job to work
for the Lord. I've told him that I'm sure he has earned a few jewels for
his crown, but I bet he would appreciate your thanks as well.

Most of the remarks about the hallway have been very favorable. The most
usual one is, "I can't believe how bright it is!" The only negative thing I
've heard about being said was that "It is too bright in here!" Some people
just prefer gloom and shadows to light and brightness.

Some people prefer to live in a spiritual gloom and shadow. These are
believers who have never tried to get rid of the sin in their lives. They
have not tried to put off the old self. They live much like people who are
not saved. Other believers who live in a spiritual gloom have known what it
is like to be in a much brighter place spiritually. They have just chosen
to drift away from God and do their own selfish things.

I don't know where you are at in your spiritual journey. I do not know the
state of everyone's spiritual well being. What I do know is that if you are
living in a spiritual gloom, you can decide today to step out of it. Get
down on your knees and give your sins over to God. Ask Him to forgive you
and help you to not sin any longer. Ask forgiveness for ignoring God's
Lordship and selfishly doing what you want. Ask Him to fill you up with His
Holy Spirit and allow Him to have access to areas of your life that you have
been keeping Him out of.

If you will do these things, you will be amazed how much things will lighten
up in your spiritual life. You might even say, "I can't believe how bright
it is!"
