Triskaidekaphobia - The Update

"But He said to them, 'Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?' Then He
arose and rebuked the winds and the sea and there was a great calm." -
Matthew 8:26 NKJV.

After a week of remembering the terrible things that happened on 9/11 a year
ago...With lottery players who picked 911 winning on 9/11 and the week
ending with Friday the 13th.I think it would be helpful to put the number
thing once again into some kind of perspective. It is pronounced
Tris-kai-da-ka-phobia and it is the fear of numbers. I had never heard of it
until this morning (9-9-99) when I did a little research. In the past it
has mostly been associated with the fear of the number thirteen. The fear
of the number thirteen is a wide spread fear. Many high rise buildings do
not have a floor with the number thirteen. In one country the national
lottery has eliminated thirteen. In another country people will not live in
a house with a street number of thirteen. Race car drivers prefer not to
race in car numbered thirteen. Many airlines do not offer a row of seats
numbered thirteen.

Today (Three years ago on 9-9-99.) seems to be a reversal of fortune for the
number nine. Nine in the past seemed to have a good reputation. "Nine
Lives." "Dressed to the Nines." Who would have suspected nine would turn
bad? Everyone has been on "pins and needles" awaiting nine, nine,
ninety-nine. Would the four number date equal a stop code for computers?
Would the world shut down? Apparently not, we seem to still be moving along
today. Some in Japan are booking package tours for 99 people for 99,999
yen. In Malaysia, lottery numbers with 9999 seem to be doing extremely well.
So maybe the reputation of nine is making a comeback.

But what about the Y2K? Let's see a fear of letter and number combinations.
I tried to find it but the search engine didn't come up with anything. So
maybe we can be the first to name this new psychological phenomenon. How
does Alpha-Triskaidekaphobia sound? Or, maybe AlphaOmegaTriskaidekaphobia?
It sounds a little silly today to be fearful of Y2K doesn't it? Why?
Because we know from hindsight that there actually was very little that
happened that would frighten anyone.

Whatever happens with the numbers, or the letter-numbers one thing is for
sure - Jesus Christ will remain the same. God will still be God. Hebrews
13:8-9a tells us, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines." Why are we
fearful? Is it because we have so "little faith?"
