Standing Up

Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for
light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
- Isaiah 5:20 NKJV.

You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. -
Leviticus 1:22 NKJV.

(See also: 1 Corinthians 6:9; Romans 1:19-32.)

According to various news reports the following question and answer was
recorded during the 2009 Miss USA Pageant:

Perez Hilton, one of the judges asking a question of Carrie Prejean,
Miss California:
“Vermont recently
became the fourth state to legalize same s_x marriage. Do you think every state
should follow suit? Why or why not?”

Carrie Prejean: “Well I
think it is great that Americans can choose one or the other. We live in a land
where you can choose same s_x marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what,
in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be
between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I
was raised and that’s how I think it should be between a man and a woman. Thank
you very much.”

Thank you Carrie Prejean for deciding to state what you truly believe in the
midst of a very difficult situation! Carrie knew the answer that Perez Hilton
wanted to hear, and she also knew that not giving the politically correct
answer could cost her the Miss USA crown, but she chose to stand up for what
she believed to be right. The consequences are obvious in that she did not win
the pageant and instead is the first runner-up. However, Carrie has won something
far better and greater than a temporary title and crown; she has won the
knowledge of knowing that she did what was right and the respect and admiration
of millions of people.

According to at least one poll 70% of Americans agree with Carrie Prejean, but
not everyone who believes it, is standing up for it. We are as Christians to be
the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Jesus says,
“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how
shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and
trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set
on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket,
but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your
light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your
Father in heaven (Matthew 5:13-16).”
Carrie’s “salt” has not lost its savor, her “light” is shining, and everyone can see it.

For the 70% of Americans who agree with Carrie and those across the world who
are also in agreement, we need to ask ourselves these questions: “Am I still
the ‘
salt of the earth?’” “Is my light still shining?”

(Update for 2016: On November
8th we once again have the opportunity to stand up for what is right
by voting for the candidate most likely to oppose the evil being poured upon us
by the world. Trump has said some bad things, but I believe he has sought forgiveness
from the Lord for that. He appears to be a new Christian who is seeking advice
and wisdom from mature Christian leaders. Trump is standing up at great
personal cost for what is right for the United States. He doesn’t have to do
this, but he believes it is the right thing to do.

The other choice we have is
Hillary Clinton who is a proven liar who has helped to destabilize the Middle
East and Libya costing lives and misery for hundreds of thousands of people.
The Clinton Foundation only uses 2.9% of the money given to it for charitable causes.
The Clinton Foundation just this week transferred $1.8 billion to a bank in
Qatar. Hillary plans to continue Obama’s policies including flooding the United
States with illegals and unvetted refugees.

If we want to stand up for
what is right our only choice is to vote for Trump, which is what I plan to
do.)

Prayer
Requests:

Please continue to pray for healing for Michelle Abetz,
Shane Hall, Brad, Damon D. & wife, Reta (my sister – she is currently in
hospital very ill), Beverly (Jeanie’s sister), Lexi McCalip, my Aunt Ellamae
Dobbs and Jeanie.

Please pray for God’s will to be
done in the upcoming election in the USA. Please pray for an end to the racial
hatred in the USA and that it will be replaced with peace and love. Many prayer
needs are posted at the Burning Bush website on the Prayer Request page. You
can also post your prayer requests there (Of
course, I am always in need of prayer - please pray for me. My prayer focus is
now that God will give me opportunities to preach. As the apostle Paul says,
“…woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!”).
