{GEAR} I went shopping

I made a choice on a drum machine today.

I went with this one: http://www.zzounds.com/item--BOSDR3

The Boss DR3 Dr. Rhythm Drum Machine. Found it at the downtown
Vancouver Long and McQuade store. Big difference from the suburb
stores - I'm going to have to give up on them altogether, methinks!
The guys there actually seemed to know stuff about basses and
equipment, which was refreshing change. [You know you're in it rough
when you know nothing but head-knowledge from churchbass (thanks
everyone, lots of learning going on here) and you feel like you
actually know more than the guy selling the stuff. Not good.
Actually, scary.]

Anyway, about the drum machine: I really was attracted to the "live
use" functionality of it, with the footswitch, so you don't actually
have to pre-program every single song you want to do before you can do
it. I'll let you know what I think of it in a while. Hope it was a
good choice... Time will tell. The one you're looking at, Dennis,
looked like good value, and this one definitely cost more, but I was
really drawn to that feature. Hope it's not a useless gimmick. I
don't *think* so... I really didn't want to go computer-based either -
with my set up it's pretty awkward...

Kinda stressful to make these decisions on equipment, because lousy
tools can be such a drag.

Also got a Radial DI box there which solved my DI dilemma - the suburb
store only had two options and I didn't like either one. Don't need
the POD I was looking at to solve that problem after all... thank
goodness. Save that crazy toy for some other day.

And finally, got the TASCAM CD-BT1 bass trainer. It seems like a
useful tool-and thanks go out to those who gave me there thoughts on
the guitar version. I'll let you know how I find it. Should be better
than playing vinyl and slowing it down with one's finger, like my
teacher says he used to do as a kid to copy Dizzy's lines! (Hey, it
obviously worked anyway...) Again, I wanted to get away from
computer-based options: with our set-up I'm hogging both the sound
space in the room where the tv lives AND the computer, which
-rightfully - makes me really unpopular... This way I'm independent
AND I can even be "silent", with headphones.

Whewf - for someone who's bought almost nothing since getting her
bass/practice amp two years ago this was a bit of a shock to the
system. And next week I get a whole new kitchen installed. I think I
need some water, I'm a little light-headed from it all...

Next is the really hard stuff: the amp and cabinet... hope I can
stall on that a little longer...
