WHY CONFESSION IS GOOD FOR THE SOUL

I.John 1:5-2:2

The Apostle John certainly writes a timely message to the Church in this passage of scripture.

In a time when sin abounds wildly in the world, and yes in the church as well, this is a message of exhortation and encouragement to the church of today.

Who can deny there is more sinful practices being enjoyed by more people than ever before?

WE as the church need to keep lifting high the banner of our Lord Jesus Christ, and keep our souls clean of all the deception and evil ways of the world.

None of us can deny the sinfulness of man, and bringing it home even closer, We all Have sinned.

It seems that every time I read and study in God's word I'm faced with the reality of the sinful nature of myself, and the holy and pure person of God. Scripture tells us (our passage) that the only way to resolve this difference or should I say get these two together is through our confession to Almighty God. ( Now I'm speaking to the Real Church, born-again Children of God, who have already confessed Christ as Saviour, who thru everyday living find themselves tangled up in snares of the devil, still children of God, but feel powerless.)

In our passage today verse 5, tells of the Holiness of God, verse 6 we cannot walk just any old way of the world and still be in fellowship with God, verse 7, If we have fellowship with God WE also will have Fellowship with the other Brethren.

Verse 8 & 10 tells us that denying our sinfulness is lying to ourselves, and not only making God to be a liar, but saying there is no place in our heart for Gods forgiveness.

Verse 9, 2:1 & 2:2are surely the most reassuring verses of hope and encouragement for we as Christians and lost folks as well.

The keyword in these verses is confession.

The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language says this about confession; an act of confessing,

Confess; 1 to disclose or acknowledge ones misdeed or fault, 2.to concede to the truth or validity of 3. to make known (ones sins) esp. to a priest for absolution.

THIS IS WHY CONFESSION IS GOOD FOR THE SOUL

When we confess our sins to God;

1. We stand in Agreement with God.

A. About His Righteousness, His Light.

turn to Ps. 51, David when confessing his sin to God, his first thoughts were that of God's tender mercies and lovingkindness

vs. 4 Against thee and only thee have I sinned.

B. About our unrighteousness

Sometimes the hardest thing to say is "I have sinned, I'm wrong".

David had to be confronted by Nathan the prophet before admitting his guilt, which led to the confession we read in Ps. 51. I guess this is why God's word is sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing deep exposing even our thoughts and deeds (Heb 4:12 paraphrased)

God desires to have Fellowship continually with us and bless us without measure, but it is our sins which separate us from this blessing. Church We Need to confess our sins before Almighty God.

2. We realize the Forgiveness of our sins

( Now we know that forgiveness of sin was secured by the shedding of Jesus Christ's Blood on Calvary , however for us to receive that forgiveness we must confess our guilt to him.)

Confession is agreeing and admitting our guilt and by doing so we are willing to turn (repent) and go the opposite direction.

A. Forgiveness is "Freeing", Liberates from the guilt and

bondage that sin held on us. Ps 51:1-2 , I John 1:9 Faithful

and just to cleanse us from All unrighteousness.

B. Forgiveness is Forever

When God forgives, He wipes the slate clean, _our

transgressions are removed as far as the east is from the west

Ps. 103:12,

He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will

subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the

depths of the sea. Micah. 7:19

Conclusion;

When we confess our sins and receive forgiveness of our sins Amazing things begin to happen

Ps. 51:12, JOY OF SALVATION WILL BE RESTORED

13, SOULWINNING COMMITMENT WILL BE

RENEWED
