The songs of moses and of the lamb
(Revelation 15:1-8)
Dr. Curt Scarborough
I. Concentration: on these two songs
1. Moses: "The Lord is my strength and song, and He has become
my salvation; He is my God, and I will praise Him . . . Who is like
You, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? . . .
Redeemed; You have guided them in Your strength to Your holy
habitation . . . The Lord, shall reign forever and ever."
(Exodus 15:2, 11, 13, 18)
2. The Lamb: "Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God
Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints!
Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name?
For You alone are holy. For all nations shall come and worship
before You, for Your judgments have been manifested."
(Revelation 15:3-4)
II. Meditation: on the main ideas contained in these two songs
1. Victory by God's power.
2. Deliverance through God's providential care.
3. Character traits of God.
4. Future events which surely will come to pass.
III. Revelation: on the similarities between these two songs
1. Both songs celebrated victory: Moses over the Egyptians; Christ,
the Lamb, over Satan, v. 2.
2. Both songs praised God for His mighty works of deliverance.
3. Both songs magnified God's character: strength, holiness, mercy,
redemption, greatness, justice, and truth.
4. Both songs foresaw the eternal future: "Reign forever and ever,"
(Exodus) and "Nations shall come and worship before You," (Revelation).
IV. Applications: as a Christian, I need to . . .
1. Thank God for all the personal, spiritual victories which He has accomplished
in my life.
2. With confident peace, trust that God will continue to take care of me.
3. Worship, praise, and glorify God's name . . . His holiness and His mercy.
4. Follow God's leadership to his holy habitation (heaven), where all nations
and all peoples shall kneel and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the
glory of God the Father, Philippians 2:9-11.
The bowls of God's wrath
(Revelation 16:1-21)
Dr. Curt Scarborough
I. Concentration: on these bowls of the wrath of God
1. Seven angels, dressed as Old Testament priests (Revelation 15:6-8), will be given
the seven bowls of the wrath of God . . . plagues; and at Christ's command, the
will pour out their bowls of full and final judgment upon the earth (as contrasted
with the partial judgments mentioned in earlier chapters).
2. In the midst of this scene of judgment and destruction, angels will sing a song
magnifying God's righteousness and justice, vv. 5-7.
3. The judgments poured out upon Satan and his followers will not bring them to
repentance; rather these punishments will cause them in their pain to blaspheme
God, vv. 8-11.
4. The final battle between God's army and Satan's army will be fought at Armageddon
(Megiddo), and will include many cataclysmic events (earthquake, hail, etc.), vv. 12-21.
II. Meditation and Revelation: on the truths revealed here
1. A day is coming when God will bring final destruction upon this world, with the
announcement of that judgment coming from the mouth of Jesus Christ, Acts 17:30-31.
2. God's holiness and righteousness demands that justice be done.
3. When God's final wrath is poured out, all possibility of unbelievers repenting, having
faith in Jesus, and receiving salvation through Christ is gone forever.
4. The cosmic battle between good and evil will be fierce; but ultimately, Almighty God
will triumph.
III. Applications: as a Christian, I need to . . .
1. Be prepared for that great day by trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ, and by being clothed
with His righteousness . . . so that I will not be naked and ashamed when He returns, v. 15.
2. Understand that God is love . . . He gave His only begotten Son . . . but that those who reject
Jesus as their Lord and Savior deserve to and will experience God's wrath.
3. Witness to lost persons now . . . "while it is day, (for) the night comes when no man can
work, John 9:4.
4. Give all glory to God who triumphs, not only in the future, but also causes us to triumph
in the present, II Corinthians 2:14; Romans 8:37.
"When your values are clear to you, making decisions becomes easier."
