[Fwd: "Under God"]

Posted by: masinick <masinick@...>

The list owner at welovegod.org, the location in which Word for Today
and the 1Corinthians7 mailing list are hosted, sent the following
message to his list owners. In it, he references a survey that the
national newspaper, USA Today, has been sending out about the question
of the wording in the pledge of allegiance.

When this survey first came out, the Christian community jumped on it
and the early results were overwhelmingly No, keep the "Under God"
wording in the pledge, as it is now. But the voting percentages have
changed. Nearly 76% of people still think that the wording should not
be changed, but that's way down from earlier numbers.

If you haven't made your vote heard in this survey, you may wish to do
so, though that's completely up to you. Personally, I believe the words
are there for good reason, and that's why they were put there in the
first place. Not everyone has to be a Christian to live freely in the
U.S. and not everyone even has to believe in a God. But I am under the
personal conviction that it is because of God's blessing that we enjoy
the things we do, and even though we tolerate all ranges of extremes, we
are still a country that is under the control and authority, ultimately,
of an Almighty God. So I feel strongly about this, enough so to at
least bring this survey to your attention.

I will never attempt to coerce anyone into doing or thinking or behaving
in any manner other than what their own convictions tell them. At the
same time, I would be dishonoring the things I value and cherish so
dearly if I were not to at least voice my own opinion, so that is all I
am doing in sharing this note with you.

USA Today is taking a vote on whether the words "Under God" should be removed
from the pledge of allegiance. You can vote by going to the following
website. Currently nearly 25% say it should be removed. I would encourage
you to pass this web site on to your friends and family and have them vote.
The ration needs to be much higher than 7.5 out of 10 in favor of keeping it
as is.
