[GEAR] My Toby Pro-5 is hissing at me

Posted by: rxdca <rxdca@...>

Okay, so I got my Yorkville XM200 in yesterday. The sound is actually
thunderous! It is way loud, much louder than I expected. But I've noticed
something while plugging into the Yorkie... my Toby Pro hisses. This
really wasn't noticeable with my 15 watt practice amp. The treble pot
hisses if it is anything but all the way down. The blend and bass pots
hiss if they are turned to either extreme. No noticeable hiss from the
volume control. It is attentuated if I use the active (-6 db) input, but
really noticeable if I use the passive (0 db) input. I've heard that the
Toby's have problems with shielding... so, is this what it is (I'm assuming
it isn't the amp)? Does the shielding need to be changed/improved? Do the
pots need to be changed? Do I need to scrap the entire active
preamp? Are the pickups the problem? Do I need to get a St. Patrick's
medallion and drive out the snakes?
