{GEAR}Thunderbird Bass

My eldest son is saving for his first bass and has set his heart on the
Epiphone Thunderbird. We played one today - I was surprised by how varied
the sound was, not at all the one-tone Gibson sound I had expected. Good
price at under GBP250 and of course the bass is very unbalanced with the
neck plunging downwards at every opportunity. Does anyone have experience
with this bass - either the Epi version or the original Gibson. Apart from
the balance problem I really liked it. We also tried a Yamaha RBX370 which
was very impressive at GBP250 and an Ibanex BTB300 which was a little more
but a very well made bass with the simplicity of one pickup plus a tone and
vol pot.
