When all your teachers wore either neckties or dresses & heels every day.

When you got your windshield cleaned and oil checked, for free,without asking,
while getting your gas pumped at the gas station.

When it was considered a great privilege to be taken out to dinner by your
parents to a restaurant, where the tables had cloth tablecloths, and you were
waited on by courteous waiters or waitresses.

When schools threatened to keep kids back a grade if they failed...and actually
did it.

When kids knew if they misbehaved at school, they would be punished, not only by
the teacher, but also by their mother or father when they arrived home with a
note from the teacher. And no kid would ever dare to not give the note to their
parents.

When any parent could discipline a kid, (even one that was not their own) or
feed him, or use him to carry groceries home from the store, and nobody, not
even the kid, thought a thing about it.
