Oops, exactly right. The term I was looking for was version not translation.

I did forget about the Cotton Patch version, which my school had a copy of
in the library, meant to minister to poor rural southerners.

My fave verse was Paul saying:

"Shall we keep on a sinnin'? Again I say, Hell no."

Had me in stitches. Current paraphrases like surfer Bibles, etc will
probably be equally funny to subsequent generations.

Speaking of which, did anyone watch King of the Hill this week? I thought it
had a VERY interesting lesson for those of us who try to make ministry
relevant. Hank was upset with Bobby hanging with a youth group led by
skaters with tatoos, etc. For Bobby, the message was that Christianity could
be cool. His prayer where he gives Props to the J-Man had me laughing.

When Hank gives his reason for being upset it was more sobering and thought
provoking. Hank takes Bobby in the garage and shows him a bunch of fads that
Bobby had thought were cool at one time, like Beanie Babies, karate, etc.
Hank ended with saying, I don't want God to be the next thing that gets put
in this box when you get tired of it.
