Re: [GEAR] Prayer for wisdom

Is it a Shen? I've not heard of a Chen, but Shen's are one of the better
factory basses out there. I talked to a guy who has actually been to their
place in China, and unlike many of the instrument makers over there, they
are entirely made by skilled workers in a real family atmosphere. I think
the husband does the carving, the wife does the varnish, etc.

I played one of their best models in Austin a few years ago and thought it
was a nice instrument.

Best of luck, and make SURE you have the ability to have a luthier check it
out with a right of refusal/ re-negotiation if there is anything wrong.
Remember, there are any number of repairs that a bass can need, and few of
them are cheap.
