Here's something I don't get, being a musician and all. I have a friend
who is a very accomplished player. He knows about every 70's and 80's
song that came out and can play most anything...but he just hates the
Beatles. He actually told me he thought they were awful musicians. I
respect his opinion but I can't grasp this.

Granted, I know they can't hang with the likes of Victor Wooten, Frank
Gambale, Chick Corea or Jim Keltner, but geez, they changed the face of
music. While creating beautful melodies they utilized very complicated
chord structures as well as created some of the most adventurous music
ever (context please).

And being a bass player I have to respect that McCartney forever changed
how the instrument was used in pop and rock music. It went from being a
1-5 instrument that layed a foundation to being melodic and in the
forefront. Ringo, who some say sucked, created some of the most artistic
drum parts ever (listen to Something). Harrison was a master of the
slide guitar and Lennon...geez, where to even begin.

As a songwriter how can anyone ignore the Beatles, think they sucked or
just flat out 'dis them? They changed everything in music, wrote some of
the most beautiful songs ever and influenced pretty much everything we
listen to today. Their influence on music is just astounding.

And to top it all, as a bass player, I have to listen to McCartney. As I
said, he changed how the instrument was used and has written some of the
most popular songs ever as well as is one of the richest and most
successful musicians anywhere.

I just don't get it...how can a musician ignore all of this? Do they
listen to the music and just not "get it"? Does he hate them
because "everyone else likes them"?

Can any of you who don't like the Beatles explain this one to me?
