Unrelated to the pick up thing, but have you tried moving
your microphone to a different position. There should be
places on stage where the bass is heard clearly even if
you're relatively quiet (eg. not too far away from the front of the amp).

I'm not sure about tonal differences - the twin Barts on
my Sei are about an inch wide and I think they sound
great.

However, I'm wondering if there are other things you can
do before going to the time and expense of dropping in
new pickups - eg:

- change your hand position and playing style
- adjust the tone controls
- adjust the amp settings
- add an outboard unit (like the Sans Amp Bass Driver DI
... much as I love my Barts, I love them even more
through this thing)

Even the SABDDI solution will be cheaper and more
flexible than buying and installing a new set of pickups!
