Re: [GEAR] Bartolini soapbar tone?

Bartolini make lots of different kinds of soapbar pickups - I'm told that
'soapbar' just refers to the shape of the pickup as opposed to what's inside
it - you can have two, three or even four coil soapbar pickups.

In general Barts come in two varieties, 'deep tone' and 'bright tone'. I
have a bass with two 'deep tone pickups' and they sound very good indeed,
very true to the character of the instrument. They have a smooth and dark
quality which works very well with my bass, which is neck-through. At least
one retailer has advised me to avoid the bright tone ones.

I can relate - when trying out a bass I always plug it into a keyboard amp
and set everything flat. If that doesn't sound reasonably good without alot
of tweaking I don't consider the instrument to have what I call 'good basic
tone' which is so critical for bass.

Bart make replacement 'single coil' pickups which are actually stacked
humbuckers - they sound almost like real single coils and will fit in the
same space as one. Have you considered those?

God bless,
