Actually, the mics are near the mixing desk at the back of the room. I'm trying to record what the team sounds like in the room, so we can adjust things as needed to improve the sound quality. I usually get a pretty good recording of the overall team. The problem is that I'm the main sound guy AND the bass player - it's tough to set my sound levels at the back of the room while I'm playing on stage 🙂

This has helped a bit, but the solo'd MM pickup still seems to have a lot of mids to the tone.

The tone circuit on the Heir is passive, so all i can do there is roll off the highs. It helps a bit, but it's not getting the job done to my satisfaction.

This is how I used to deal with the problem. I can carve up the midrange pretty well with the Eden's EQ, and that's how I dialed it in over the past year. However, we're now ampless so I'm using my SansAmp.

That's what I'm doing now, but I haven't been able to get what I want from the 2-band EQ on the SansAmp. Part of the problem is the no-amps/I'm the sound guy issue again. And being a mobile church. I just don't have an opportunity to plug in at the board and dial in my stuff.

I guess what I'm looking for is a "less fiddly" approach to getting the tone I want. I've played several basses with Bart pickups and they all seem to have "a sound" that I like. Heck, I really like the sound of my Heir when I can use the neck pickup. But it's a single coil, and everywhere I've played lately it just hums too much to be useful.
