DECISION TIME

We make decisions every day.  Some decisions are minor in nature.  Other decisions affect us for a lifetime.  It is important that we learn to make right decisions.  Let us learn from the following examples:

ABRAHAM DECIDED TO ACCEPT – GENESIS 15:1-6

Abraham accepted the promises of God by faith.  As a result God declared Him righteous.

Romans 4:1-3, Galatians 3:6-7

ENOCH DECIDED TO ABIDE – Genesis 5:21-24

Enoch decided to walk with God.  We should do the same. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17, John 15:7, Joshua 1:8

THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL DECIDED TO ABANDON – Numbers 14:1-10

The children of Israel abandoned God to go their own way.  Those who refused to obey God died in the wilderness and did not see the Promised Land.

CALEB DECIDED TO ADHERE – Numbers 14:22-24

Caleb, along with Joshua, was faithful to God, and adhered to, or followed Him fully.

JOB DECIDED TO AGREE - Job 1:20-22

Instead of being angry with God, Job agreed with God by yielding to His will.

Deuteronomy 10:12-13

WHAT DOES GOD WANT?

And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, [13] To keep the commandments of the Lord, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?

GOD WANTS US TO:

FEAR THE LORD

WALK IN THE LORD’S WAYS

LOVE THE LORD

SERVE THE LORD

OBEY THE LORD

IT’S BETTER

Here are some better things found in the Book of Psalms.

BETTER WEALTH

Psalm 37:16 - A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.

Psalm 119:72 - The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.

BETTER CARE

Psalm 63:3 - Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.

BETTER FELLOWSHIP

Psalm 84:10 - For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

BETTER TRUST

Psalm 118:8-9 - It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. [9] It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.

THAT'S LIFE!

THE MODEL CHURCH, LESSON 16

You've heard the expression, "That's Life".  What's good and bad about this attitude?

How should a Christian's attitude be different than that attitude?

What should the Christian Life be like?

Here are three Bible personalities who help show us the kind of lives we should live.

AENEAS:

·       A LIFE THAT WAS DIFFICULT Vs. 33

·       A LIFE THAT BECAME DIFFERENT Vs. 34

·       A LIFE THAT DECLARED GOD'S GRACE Vs. 35

DORCAS:

v    A LIFE THAT WAS FULL OF GOD'S GOODNESS Vs. 36

v    A LIFE THAT FULFILLED GOD'S GOALS Vss. 37

v    A LIFE THAT WAS FASHIONED FOR GOD'S GLORY Vss. 38-39

v    A LIFE THAT FURTHERED THE GOSPEL Vss. 40-42

PETER:

Ø     A LIFE  DEDICATED TO THE WORD OF HIS MASTER Vs. 32

Ø     A LIFE THAT DUPLICATED THE WORKS OF HIS MASTER Vss. 34 & 40-41, Mark 2:1-12 & 5:34-43,

Ø     A LIFE THAT DECLARED THE WORTH OF HIS MASTER Vss. 35 & 42

Philippians 1:19-26

AT THE CROSSROADS

It was winter of 1989. Village Bible Church in Fonda, New York was in trouble.

In January another key family left. A few had already left. There were not many people attending. Moral was low. The only publicity we seemed to get in the community was negative.

It was a time of decision for myself and other members of the congregation. We were at the crossroads. Were we to give up, or were we to go on? One of our men said that he was staying until the church closed its doors. He was committed. Another one of our men took on leadership responsibility. I came to the conclusion that even if I had to take a part-time job, I would stay.

That church still hasn't closed!  I stayed at the church for 10 1//2 years, never had to take another job, and God turned it around. Today one of the people who joined the church under our ministry is now the pastor. We were at the crossroads, but made the right decision.

In this life you will often find yourself "at the crossroads".  It will be a time when you must make an important decision. Such decisions might involve marriage, schooling, family, employment, church or other things.

When we come to the "crossroads" it is easy to get depressed, worried, uncertain, confused, and out of sorts. The crossroads we face usually don't bring us much joy.  Paul, however, faced a crossroads in his life and he was able to handle it with joy.

PAUL HAD A PROBLEM - Vss. 23-24

Paul's crossroad was simply this. He wanted to leave earth and go home to be with the Lord. But he also realized that it was necessary for him to remain a while longer to help the Philippians and other churches under his care. It was a tough decision.

PAUL HAD A PLAN - Vss. 20-21

Paul could handle the crossroads in life because he had a plan.

His plan was to magnify Christ no matter whether he lived or faced death.

Nothing else really mattered.

Paul's plan meant that life was centered on Christ. For Him to live was Christ, and to die was gain!

PAUL HAD A PRIORITY - Vss. 19,24-26

Paul's priority was to do what was most important for the Lord.

Paul realized that although he'd rather have Jesus take him home, it was more important for the Philippians that he be delivered and continue to minister.

Paul's decision at the crossroads was centered around the Lord's will and doing what was best for others.
