Spelling

Posted by: dhaley <dhaley@...>

I too am a big believer in Spelling Power.  My son had been a terrible speller. My daughter a natural speller.  She'd never taken a spelling test and I was giving my son one.  So she just wrote done the words too.  She got 9 out of 10 right and her brother only received about 6 out of 10 right and he'd been studying! It's only been this year (he's 16) that spelling seems to have clicked for him.  I can't decide if was all the work with Spelling Power or using SOS LA  this year (probably both) but something has clicked for him recently.

I'll never forget my sister telling me not to worry about my son and his spelling.  Her husband is a terrible speller.  So are the guys that work on his crew.  He works for the County and works on the roads and such.  They  have to fill out reports all the time.  The County finally installed spell checkers in all the county vehicles so the guys could fill out their reports properly.  On one hand I guess it's a sad comment on education but on the other hand it does show there are ways to compensate for our lack of ability...Deanna
