Word for Today, Fri, 17 Aug 2001: For in Him we LIVE

Posted by: masinick <masinick@...>

Dear friends,

Some people crave to hear things from unusual places. They have
a fantasy, perhaps, that if some "spirit" speaks to them, they
will hear some exciting news.

Well, I DO have some exciting news! The reason that people
grave for some spirit to "touch" them is that there IS One Spirit
who created each of us. But He created us for a relationship
with Him, not for seeking every which way to find some spirit
that will say what we want to hear.

Neil Anderson cuts right to it in this message, exposing "false
guidance". The Holy Bible has everything we need to understand
about the One, true spirit, The Holy Spirit, the spiritual
personality of our pure, Holy Creator, the One True God, the
Father of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

There is a passage of scripture that I learned when I was 11
years old and attending a "Confirmation Class". In that church,
this was a process where children would study for a couple of
hours each Saturday for a year with the pastor, at which time
they would be given an opportunity to make a personal profession
of faith. Believe it or not, though my faith was young and not
fully developed in those days, I remember many things. I even
memorized several scriptures. One that has stayed with me, but
that I have not been able to remember the reference, comes from
Acts 17. In that dialog, the apostle Paul was speaking to a
group of people in the city of Athens, a city we recognize, even
today. He was comparing their interest in "religion" with the
God who made the world.

Well, I used a "Revised Standard Version" Bible at the Gospel
Communications Network,
bible.gospelcom.net/cgi-bin/bible?passage=ACTS+17&language=english&version=RSV&showfn=off&showxref=off
to see if I could find the passage that I remembered, and,
"Voila!", I have found the exact passage: Acts 17:24-31. The
exact phrase I remembered is in verse 28: 'For in Him we live and
move and have our being'.

This verse confirms what Neil is telling us, and I am SO excited
to not only remember the verse, but to locate it in the text I
studied from, way back in "The Stone Age": 1967-1968! Praise God
that He continues to use His Word in MY life! May God bless each
of you today in your lives as well.

Your Brother in Christ,
Brian

FALSE GUIDANCE

As for the person who turns to mediums and to
spiritists, to play the harlot after them, I will
also set My face against that person and will cut
him off from among his people (Leviticus 20:6).

The craving for esoteric, "extra" knowledge in our
culture was starkly illustrated to me when two
conferences, both open to the public, were recently
held in Pasadena, California. One was a major world
conference on international missions and about 600
people attended. At the same time, a New Age
conference was being conducted nearby, and more
than 40,000 people showed up! That's our society
today. People don't want to hear what God has to
say. They want information and direction from
someone else who "knows": a psychic, a channeler, a
palm-reader, a card-reader, or the spirit of a dead
friend or relative. All you have to do is change
the wording from medium to channeler and demon to
spirit guide and a gullible society accepts it!

The Scriptures are very clear on the subject of
seeking knowledge and direction for our lives from
anyone but God. We're about as far away from that
stance on the purveyors of psychic and spiritual Los
Angeles consult spiritists than professional
counselors. You can attend a psychic fair in
practically any city in our land and get a personal
spiritual "reading." The reader is either a fake or
a spiritual medium who enters a trance and
seemingly receives instruction for you from the
spiritual world. Far from being seen as a blight on
society, these people are often revered as highly
as doctors and ministers for their "expertise."

Don't allow yourself to be sucked in by these
"experts" no matter how socially acceptable they
may be. Nothing is condemned more by God in
Scripture than false guidance. All the wisdom and
knowledge you need is available in your
relationship with God and His Word.

Father God, forgive me for seeking guidance from
sources outside Your authority. I commit myself to
renew my mind through Your Word.
